Dr. Sergio Trindade
World Wise Director, Brazil


Dr. Trindade has extensive experience in technology, energy, climate change and environmental consulting and management, with a variety of organizations all over the world. Jointly, with many other contributors to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change – IPCC, he is a co-winner of the Nobel Peace Prize for 2007. He is a true globalist having contributed to managing technological change and the creation of technology centers in many countries, including China, India.  

His career included periods at Shell, Stone & Webster, Arthur D. Little, Inc., Promon (a large Brazilian technology company), and the United Nations, where he was the Assistant Secretary-General for Science and Technology. There he created and practiced the cluster management approach to improve effectiveness of staff involved in complex issues. At the same time he developed and successfully tested globally the concept of stakeholders’ dialogues to address issues impacting diverse constituencies.

Since leaving the UN, Dr. Trindade has pursued multiple areas of expertise. In addition to his work with World Wise, he provides energy expertise via his projects at SE2T International, Ltd which he founded in 1991.  His work on alternative and renewable fuels, especially fuel ethanol, is recognized worldwide. He holds a PhD, ChE and MSc in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, with a minor in international business and energy economics.
