What Are Global Skills?

Global Skills are foundational business skills for companies seeking to enhance their global competitiveness, and which focus on acquiring the necessary local country knowledge as it pertains to communication, relationship-building and problem-solving skills.

Global Skills play a key role between the interplay of economics, politics, culture, technology and the environment, and reflect the forward thinking of companies who desire to work effectively across borders while respecting local values.

At World Wise, our goal is to continue to be a premier resource in designing specific Global Skills strategies for our clients that are industry and market specific.  All programs are implemented by World Wise’s extensive network of 300 senior advisors through highly focused workshops, formal training sessions, group discussion and executive coaching.  Training is offered in a variety of languages including Arabic, French, Mandarin, Hindi and Spanish, among others.

What Do Global Skills Provide?

  • Confidence to engage people from cultures and nations other than your own, by using their cultural concepts.

  • Knowledge and appreciation about the backgrounds to regional cultural variations among people around the world, in order to enhance international interactions, negotiations and partnerships.

  • Using local knowledge to understand how different nationalities perceive themselves and applying that knowledge to engage them more fully in business negotiation and project development.

  • Instincts to understand the true meanings behind gestures and common expressions used by various cultures around the world.

  • Ability to code-switch between global cultures, or alternating between two or more languages, in the course of communication between people.

I think everyone who will work, travel, or go on an assignment to regions outside the US should go through this course. Basically, we work for a Global Company and each of us will at some point in our career deal with other regions. Most of the time, this will be done over the phone, email, etc... with very few face to face encounters. But, understanding someone's culture and how they communicate will be a great help to get the job done more efficiently.
